The signature feature

Put the national park map over your GPS map

The map they hand you at the park gate is the best map of the park — so NomadTracks makes it your live map. Photograph it or import the PDF, georeference it in two minutes, and your blue dot moves across the official cartography. Fully offline.

  • GeoPDF & GeoTIFF align automatically on import
  • Photograph any paper map and set control points in-app
  • Accuracy readout in meters — never a guess
  • Works with zero signal, from Etosha to Bryce Canyon

Built for the outdoors

A complete GPS notebook, minus the bloat

NomadTracks focuses on intuitive, logical usability with a clean interface — and on keeping your data yours.

High-precision recording

GPS tracks with accurate elevation, live stats on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island, and a live map with scale bar, compass and coordinates.

Points of interest

Pin camps, water sources and viewpoints with categories, colors, photos, addresses and notes. Add them by hand with lon/lat or UTM coordinates.

Your own maps

Overlay georeferenced PDFs and TIFFs — or photograph a paper map and georeference it in the app. Navigate on maps nobody else has.

Route planning

Plan routes that follow real roads and trails, with distance, duration and elevation — then save them as tracks and follow them outside.

Apple Watch, standalone

Record GPS, heart rate and elevation without your iPhone. Customize the data fields and save every workout to Apple Health.

Privacy first

Your data lives on your devices and in your own iCloud, Dropbox or Synology NAS — never on our servers. No ads, no third-party tracking.

The NomadTracks specialty

Bring the paper maps you trust

National-park handouts, scanned topo sheets, historic maps, trail-association PDFs — georeference them once and they become live, position-aware maps.

  • Import georeferenced PDFs and TIFFs directly
  • Photograph any paper map and set control points in the app
  • See your live position on the overlaid map — fully offline
  • Accuracy readout (RMS) so you know how well it's aligned

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is NomadTracks free?

Yes. Recording tracks, points of interest, custom maps, GPX import/export, iCloud and Synology sync, and the Apple Watch app are all free. The optional NomadTracks Pro subscription adds route planning, Dropbox sync, and Google Maps and OpenStreetMap basemaps.

Does NomadTracks work offline?

Yes. GPS recording works completely offline — no signal required. Your own georeferenced custom maps are stored on the device, so you can navigate with them far from any network.

Where is my tracking data stored?

On your devices and in your own private iCloud (or your own Dropbox or Synology NAS if you choose). NomadTracks has no servers of its own, no account system, no ads and no third-party tracking.

Can I import existing GPX files?

Yes. NomadTracks imports tracks and POIs from GPX and GeoJSON, and exports them again at any time — including bundles with photos and metadata. No lock-in. See the import guide.

Does the Apple Watch app work without an iPhone?

Yes. The watch records GPS, heart rate and elevation on its own and saves workouts to Apple Health. See the Watch guide.

Can I use my own paper or PDF maps?

Yes — it's a NomadTracks specialty. Import a georeferenced PDF or TIFF, or photograph any paper map and georeference it with control points in the app. See the custom maps guide.

Is there an Android version?

An Android version is coming soon. Today NomadTracks runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch.

Which devices does NomadTracks support?

iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch — in English, German, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese and Hungarian. An iPhone can even share its GPS position with a Wi-Fi-only iPad.

The trail is waiting.
